Less than a year ago the all-new Mitsubishi Pajero Sport made its long awaited South African debut to massive acclaim – not only from the motoring media and the Mitsubishi Motors dealer network, but more importantly the South African SUV public who love travelling, adventure and the outdoors.

Loyal customers remained waiting in great anticipation to carry on with the legendary Pajero heritage dating back to Mitsubishi Motors’ first of 12 Dakar Rally victories starting in the early 1980s.

The all-new Pajero Sport, redesigned and engineered from the ground up, offering the latest state-of-the-art technology, sets it firmly in the sights of Pajero connoisseurs as the latest SUV flagship in the Mitsubishi Motors stable.

“We continuously conduct market research to determine how the Mitsubishi Motors designers and engineers could improve the driving experience of our range of vehicles, hence strengthening our already loyal customer base,” says Nic Campbell, General Manager at Mitsubishi Motors South Africa. “This keeps Mitsubishi Motors on the forefront of innovation and cutting-edge technology. This kind of forward thinking and moving will ensure that Mitsubishi Motors remains progressive.”

 Additional safety

Already boasting various active and passive safety features among a host of luxury appointments, the designers improved the Pajero Sport’s safety by adding ISO-FIX child seat anchors as part of Mitsubishi Motors’ trusted pedigree of providing progressive, robust, tough, reliable and safe products.

Apart from the additional child seat safety, a seventh airbag for the protection of the driver’s knees in the case of an accident has also been added.

Power and effortless performance

Powered by a super-responsive 2.4L MIVEC Turbo Diesel Engine producing 133kW at 3 500 rpm and 430Nm of torque at 2 500 rpm, driving the wheels through its state-of-the-art 8-speed Automatic Transmission with Intelligent Shift Control, the Pajero Sport 4×2 now boasts a Towing Mass of 2 700 kg, with the 4×4 derivative now able to tow a trailer or off-road caravan up to 2 790 kg. “Pajero Sport is known for its supreme manoeuvrability and class-leading turning circle for tight urban parking spots and adventurous off-road driving,” says Campbell. “Another great new feature is the 120 Watt Power Plug, which comes in quite handy for charging electronic devices on the trot or out in nature.”

The best 4WD system in the world

Following in the tracks of the company that offered the world the very first four-wheel drive vehicle, the Pajero Sport 4×4 is fitted with the latest version of Mitsubishi Motors’ unique Super Select II 4WD system offering four different drive modes with a class-leading Hill-Descent Control system for additional safety when on dangerous ground.

“Mitsubishi drivers are ambitious adventurers who love exploring and discovering new destinations,” adds Campbell.

In addition, Electronic Off-road Assistance is available to allow the driver to improve the off-road performance of the Pajero Sport by selecting the Gravel, Mud/Snow or Sand mode in 4HLc to suit surface conditions and optimise engine output, transmission settings and braking for superior traction. The additional Rock setting for extreme off-road conditions can be engaged in 4LLc.

 Unchanged pricing, servicing and warranty

The Pajero Sport starts at R569 995 for the 4×2 8-speed A/T with Intelligent Shift Control and R619 995 for the 4×4 featuring Mitsubishi Motors’ unique Super Select II 4WD system with electronic Off-road Assistance for improved driver control and passenger safety.

The Pajero Sport is covered by a 3-year / 100 000 km manufacturer’s warranty and a 5-year / 90 000 km service plan with 10 000 km service intervals.
