So…at the beginning of July 2018, we asked our fans to get creative and submit their pictures and stories about their 4×4’s , their passion for the 4×4 life, and their love for us!

We promised our first-ever Fan Feature Article to the winner!

Needless to say, we simply could not overlook an amazing entry by Mr. Lourens Faurie! He has taken a standard 4×2 Colt Bakkie, and painstakingly converted it into a 4×4 Mustang on steroids! (Why do I say “Mustang”? – because Colt refers to a young male horse usually not it it’s prime – how can we use that term to describe his mean machine!)

We asked Faurie, a many of few words really, to tell us about his battles and his rise to glory and now fame – since we’re featuring him ofcourse…I mean, who better? – and to also send us some pictures of the progressing mod.

Well, he certainly treated us to some behind the scenes kinda stuff, which we’re privledged to be able to share with you too!

Lourens Faurie explains taking this 1999 2.8 TDI Pioneer to the next level was a 5 year journey.

He purchased the vehicle in August 2012. Mods beginning as early as 2013 saw Lourens having the Cylinder Head and Fuel Injectors machined. In January of 2014, he had the Turbo reconditioned  – “But not to standard specs, we fitted a bigger Shaft and bigger Impellers” – Lourens explains. Not quite satisfied with the Torque – “She wasn’t pulling well enough” he says, his next move was the reconditioning of the Diesel Pump and Throttle Shaft conversion for greater low-end Torque. In 2016 he teamed up with Eugene van Wyk of the Colt Owners Group SA on FaceBook…he then decided to fit a front-mounted Intercooler – Custom built to fit, we might add…His words at this point were “My Colt was pulling very well!”It was only at this point that the decision for the 4×4 mod came up, Eugene said that Lourens was the first person ever to make such a decision…Rebuilds are not uncommon, but a full on conversion from the ground up on a 4×2 to 4×4 had not been heard of! – Behold, rise of the Mod-Mad-Man! It was onwards and upwards, with some sidewards from here on! Everything 4×4 Frankensteined into this Colt from Ball joint flip to front Camel shocks, Snorkel and Terrain Tyres…

“I must say, most people said a conversion like this will cost more than buying a 4×4! – I was determined to prove them wrong! And I did!!!!…Since October 2017 my Colt has been on a couple of 4×4 courses and I even completed Rust De Winter weekend where one shock absorber broke!” Faurie concluded with the humble words – “That’s basically my story”…

We’ll we say you’re a modest 4x4motoring monster Champ Lourens!…And we’re happy to feature you…Your determination certainly paid off and there are surely many people chewing on their boots right now ;)…Well done and thank you for sharing the journey with us…We wish you many more happy miles with your 4×4!!!

Keep us posted Lourens!
